China's Ministry of Commerce Condemns EU Investigation into Transcendence Technologies, Demands No Organization or Individual to Assist
China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Saturday, urging all organizations and individuals not to cooperate with the European Union's anti-subsidy investigation targeting Chinese security equipment manufacturer Transcendence Technologies.
According to AFP news agency reporting from Beijing on May 16, products manufactured by Transcendence Technologies (Nuctech) include body scanners and handheld luggage X-ray inspection systems, which are used in airports, railway stations, and subway stations.
The EU had announced in December 2025 the initiation of an investigation into Transcendence Technologies Group, suspecting it of receiving illegal subsidies. This probe is based on an EU regulation passed in 2023 aimed at countering unfair competition caused by foreign companies benefiting from state subsidies.
In a statement released on Saturday, China’s Ministry of Commerce said the EU regulation creates "trade barriers." China had previously "called for dialogue," but "the EU persisted in its wrong course and has strayed further and further."
The statement emphasized: "We urge any organization or individual not to implement or assist in implementing this measure," and condemned the EU’s actions against Transcendence Technologies as "unjust extraterritorial jurisdiction."
China’s Ministry of Commerce stated: "China will closely monitor the EU’s actions and take necessary measures to firmly safeguard national security and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises."
Transcendence Technologies (Nuctech) is a subsidiary of Tsinghua Tongfang Group, a state-controlled enterprise, with business operations spanning nuclear energy technology, information technology, and inspection systems for multiple industries.
The company previously stated that it had become aware of the EU’s decision to launch the investigation.
Meanwhile, the China Chamber of Commerce to the European Union believes that Chinese enterprises have been subjected to "clearly disproportionate and abusive" treatment under the framework of this EU regulation.
