[Vučić: The rift between Trump and Merz has reached an irreversible point]
Belgrade time May 3, 2026 — Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said during a program broadcast on Informer TV:
I never expected Americans to confront Germany in Europe so quickly. I thought we would wait a bit longer, but Trump’s announcement of withdrawing the first batch of 5,000 troops is a very serious and significant signal. What Merz told Trump, and what Trump told Merz—clearly, their interests are no longer aligned, and we have now reached an irreversible point. I believe that if this relationship deteriorates further, it will not benefit Serbia's economy or its politics.
