The Supreme Leader of Iran: Issues regarding the range and type of Iran's missiles are none of America's business
Sputnik News, Tehran, February 17 - In the context of the Iran-US talks held on February 17 in Geneva, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei stated that issues regarding the range and type of Iran's missiles are none of America's business.
Fars News Agency quoted Khamenei as saying: "Having deterrent weapons is essential. Any country without deterrent weapons will be suppressed by its enemies. However, the US tries to interfere, claiming that we cannot have such missiles or missiles of this range. But this issue has nothing to do with the US."
Earlier on February 17, Iranian state radio reported that the second round of indirect negotiations on the Iranian nuclear project between Iran and the US began on February 17 in Geneva. The Iranian delegation was led by Iran's Foreign Minister Zarif, while the US delegation was led by US President's special envoy Witte.
On February 13, US President Donald Trump said that if the negotiations with Iran fail, the second US aircraft carrier battle group would soon be deployed to the Middle East.
On February 6, the US and Iranian delegations held the first round of negotiations in Muscat, the capital of Oman, aiming to resolve differences between the two sides over Iran's nuclear program.
In 2025, Iran and the US held five rounds of indirect negotiations under Oman's mediation, but core differences remained unresolved. The US demanded that Iran completely abandon uranium enrichment, while Iran emphasized that its right to peacefully use nuclear energy is non-negotiable. In June 2025, Israel's attack on Iran triggered a "12-day war," during which the US bombed key Iranian nuclear facilities. Since then, the Iran-US negotiations have been suspended.
