Foreign media: China has suspended issuing new permits for autonomous vehicles, due to the sudden shutdown of Baidu's Apollo Go driverless taxis in Wuhan last month.
This suspension means autonomous driving companies can no longer expand their existing fleets, launch new pilot projects, or extend operations to other cities. Baidu's driverless taxi operations in Wuhan have also been halted, with local authorities currently investigating the incident.
Two major driverless taxi companies, Pony.ai and WeRide, responded by stating their businesses are running normally and supporting regulatory oversight to ensure the highest safety standards in the industry.
