BYD's revenue in France increased nearly sixfold in 2024
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD saw its turnover in France increase nearly sixfold compared to 2023 in 2024.
Performance data of BYD seen by AFP shows that the Chinese electric vehicle and hybrid car manufacturer BYD saw a 5.7-fold increase in turnover in France compared to 2023, confirming an earlier report by the French newspaper "Le Journal du Dimanche" on Friday.
Specifically, the turnover of BYD France in 2024 totaled 167 million euros, while it was 29 million euros in 2023.
BYD started selling in France in mid-2023, and its business in France has not yet turned a profit. According to its income statement, its French subsidiary incurred a loss of more than 150,000 euros in 2024.
BYD told AFP: "We hope to continue developing the brand, expanding our geographical coverage and product range."
BYD's car sales in France are continuously increasing. Last year, BYD sold 5,415 new cars in France, and sales in the first half of this year have already exceeded this number, reaching 5,908 vehicles.
However, according to the 2024 annual report of the French organization "Automobile Platform (PFA)", compared to well-known European brands Stellantis (registered 452,900 units) and Renault (registered 425,116 units), Chinese car brands still account for a small share in the French market in 2024.
According to the "Automobile Platform (PFA)" as well, among electric vehicle manufacturers, Tesla sold 40,709 new vehicles in France in 2024. MG Motor (a former British brand under China's SAIC Group) sold 25,782 electric and hybrid vehicles in the French market last year.
BYD France has 68 sales points across France and plans to reach 100 sales points by the end of the year.
