According to Russian television channel RT, on October 9, Indian officials stated that India is planning to send a large number of technical workers to Russia to promote bilateral trade and deepen economic cooperation.
The report said that during an interview at the "Tatarstan-India Mutual Efficiency" (TIME) forum in the Russian city of Kazan, the Chief Secretary of the southern Indian state of Telangana, Dhananjaya Kishore, stated that India and Russia "maintain friendly relations," which would be "the first large-scale dispatch of labor force by India to Russia."
Kishore pointed out that Russia is facing a shortage of technical workers, while India has already exported blue-collar labor to 33 countries. He said that Telangana is accelerating skill training, focusing on professional skills in fields such as aerospace, manufacturing, and "Industry 4.0," enabling local workers to gain employment opportunities in the international market. The state government is also actively promoting Russian language training to create conditions for Indian workers to find jobs in Russia.
At the forum event, Ivan Nosov, CEO of Sberbank's India branch, said, "Countries that employ Indian workers are increasingly recognizing India's high qualification standards." He said, "More than 15 million Indians are working abroad, and the number of Indian workers going to Russia has increased about 10 times over the past year, reaching about 40,000."
Nosov pointed out that the total value of goods and services exported by India annually exceeds 450 billion US dollars, but exports to Russia are only about 5 billion US dollars. "Many Russians are not aware of India's technological capabilities and modern manufacturing facilities, which provides Indian companies with an opportunity to see Russia as a viable market," he said.
RT's report mentioned that earlier this year, India's Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, revealed that New Delhi and Moscow are actively negotiating agreements related to migration and talent mobility. Kumar said in an interview with the British magazine "International Affairs": "The demographic structures of India and Russia bring unique opportunities for both sides. By sending skilled technical professionals, we can not only help Russia address its labor shortages, but our cooperation between the two countries will also be further deepened."
