Cuban President: U.S. Embargo Aims to Incite Social Unrest
Cuban State President Miguel Díaz-Canel recently publicly stated that the economic embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba has reached an "unbearable" level, with the real intention being to artificially provoke social unrest. In response, Havana will once again submit a proposal to the United Nations General Assembly, calling on the international community to jointly push for the removal of this sanction.
In a post on his social media platform X, Díaz-Canel wrote: "We firmly believe in multilateralism and also trust the United Nations as an effective mechanism for resolving international disputes. Given that the blockade has escalated to its extreme limit and its purpose is clearly aimed at disrupting social order, Cuba will once again bring this issue before the United Nations General Assembly for consideration."
Since the 1960s, Cuba has annually submitted draft resolutions to the UN General Assembly demanding that the United States end its over-60-year-old economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba. Although these draft resolutions have consistently received support from the vast majority of UN member states each year, they remain non-binding recommendations without legal enforceability, leading the U.S. to offer no substantive response. Cuba's renewed effort aims to leverage international public pressure to continuously expose the humanitarian and developmental crises caused by the blockade.
