Han Media: Despite US Tariffs, Vietnam's Economy Still Achieved 8% Growth!
January 31, the South Korean media outlet News1 published an article stating that last year, despite the major adverse factor of high US tariffs, Vietnam's economy still achieved a steady growth of more than 8%.
The General Statistics Office of Vietnam recently announced that Vietnam's economy grew by 8.02% in 2025.
This figure exceeded the 7.09% growth rate of 2024 and is the highest record since 2022.
Some evaluations suggest that this was due to the early resolution of the US tariff threat. In April of last year, the Trump administration threatened to impose retaliatory tariffs as high as 46% on Vietnam, citing its large trade surplus with the US.
However, through active negotiations, Vietnam dramatically reached an agreement that reduced the tariff rate to 20%. The agreement came into effect on August 7, significantly alleviating trade uncertainty and avoiding the worst-case scenario.
The tariff reduction agreement has become a catalyst for reviving Vietnam's export engine. Despite the 20% tariff, Vietnam's exports to the US increased by 28% year-on-year in 2025, reaching $153 billion, a new historical high.
At the same time, despite the surge in exports to the US, imports from China also reached a new historical high of $186 billion.
Vietnam has set an ambitious goal of at least 10% growth this year.
