UK media: London tries to prevent EU leaders from commenting on Putin and Trump's meeting

The UK's Daily Telegraph reported, citing sources, that London is secretly trying to persuade European leaders to stop commenting on the upcoming meeting between Russian and US presidents on August 15, and to avoid offending the US leader with their demands.

Kremlin and White House previously announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will hold a meeting in Alaska on August 15.

According to the Daily Telegraph: "British officials have urged EU leaders to stop making [unhelpful comments] on the upcoming Ukraine peace talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin."

The newspaper pointed out that London is worried that making demands to the US president could lead to 'unpleasant consequences' and cause him to completely exclude Europe from the negotiations.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer supported Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine with EU leaders on Sunday. Afterward, he did not make any statements about the upcoming meeting.

A source told the newspaper, "Unlike European counterparts," London would not publicly make demands to the US, but prefer to act behind the scenes.

This source emphasized, "The way Europeans behave would anger Americans, and if they start making demands and setting red lines, it would also anger Trump."
