Central Asian Media: Tajikistan's President Rakhmon Visits China to Deepen Economic Ties
According to statistics from the Tajikistan Presidential Office, over 700 Chinese capital enterprises are currently operating in Tajikistan. Of the nearly $7 billion in foreign investment flowing into this Central Asian country last year, approximately 12.5% came from China.
President Emomali Rahmon revealed these figures upon arriving in Beijing on Monday. The visit aims to strengthen economic ties with China. Last year, China surpassed Russia to become Tajikistan’s largest trading partner. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that President Rahmon’s visit took place from May 11 to May 14.
China is expanding economic projects and investments across Central Asia, and the numerous ongoing initiatives in Tajikistan reflect this rapid momentum.
Last month, government and industry officials from both countries met in Dushanbe to discuss "green minerals"—resources abundant in Tajikistan that are essential for clean energy technologies such as solar panels and electric vehicle batteries. In February this year, the first container train from China arrived at Tajikistan’s capital via Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan described this route as a new trade corridor.
In a summary of President Rahmon’s speech in Beijing on Monday, the Presidential Office noted: "The construction of modern transportation and economic corridors connecting China, South Asian nations, and the Middle East represents another factor promoting cooperation with our neighboring country, China."
During the presidential visit, more than 50 agreements were signed between Tajikistan and Chinese enterprises. The Presidential Office said these agreements are expected to attract over $8 billion in investment to Tajikistan.
