Korean Media: Apple Creates 350,000 Jobs in India!

On October 1, the South Korean media outlet "Global Economy" published an article stating that as Apple expands its production capacity in India, the number of local companies in Apple's supply chain has increased to 45, directly and indirectly creating 350,000 jobs.

According to sources, "Apple has been in the Indian market for five years, and is currently actively incorporating various Indian device manufacturers into its supply chain. In addition to large companies, more than 20 small and medium-sized enterprises have joined Apple's supply chain."

Apple has established a supply chain across India. According to relevant sources, although the production of iPhones is handled by five factories located in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the ecosystem of components and sub-components covers a broader range, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana.

An industry expert pointed out, "Apple initially strengthened its supply chain in India by attracting Chinese companies such as Henkel, and eventually 14 Chinese companies received approval to invest in India. Afterward, Apple began using non-Chinese companies to build an ecosystem that ensures technology transfer and openness."

According to data from the Indian government, the iPhone ecosystem in India produced $45 billion worth of iPhones over the past four years, of which $34 billion (76%) was used for exports.

Driven by the growth in iPhone production and exports, smartphones have become India's largest export product. The ranking of smartphone exports rose from 167th in the fiscal year 2014/15 to first place in the fiscal year 2024/25.

Currently, India's share of iPhone production is about 20%, and with the maturation of India's ecosystem, India's share of iPhone production is expected to increase further.
