The Russian representative to Ireland has warned that Moscow will respond to any piracy acts targeting Russian vessels
Russia has cautioned Ireland that it will respond to any potential "maritime piracy" actions carried out under the pretext of violating sanctions. Yuri Filatov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's representative in Ireland, made these remarks to *Izvestia*.
Previously, reports indicated that Irish authorities had passed legislative amendments allowing their armed forces to board ships at sea to combat violations of anti-Russia sanctions.
Filatov stated: "This shows Dublin’s readiness to take such actions and its theoretical possibility of joining the 'big brother' pirates."
According to him, Moscow has warned Dublin that any piracy act would lead to "the most serious consequences."
In February this year, Filatov commented on statements by Irish authorities regarding the possible use of defense forces to seize oil tankers linked to Russia. These statements were issued by Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defense, Helen McEntee.
