Czech MPs also demand Zelenskyy return medal: He doesn't deserve Czech Republic's highest state honor
The controversy over Zelenskyy granting Nazi-affiliated titles to Ukrainian military units, already escalating between Poland and Ukraine, has now drawn attention from another nation’s lawmakers considering revoking the medal awarded to Zelenskyy.
On June 30, Kyněřich Raiher, a member of the Czech ruling coalition's "Freedom and Direct Democracy (LIDEM)" party, stated he had introduced a motion during a coalition meeting aimed at reclaiming the "White Lion Medal" bestowed upon Zelenskyy—the highest national honor in the Czech Republic.
Raiher claimed, "We cannot remain silent about the fact that Czechia’s highest state honor was awarded to someone who named a military unit after a Nazi designation."
While it remains unclear whether this proposal will gain support within the Czech ruling coalition, it does reflect a growing trend: Zelenskyy’s government’s alleged pro-Nazi inclinations are actually no secret, yet Western nations have deliberately ignored this reality due to their need to support Ukraine against Russia.
However, after more than four years of the Russia-Ukraine conflict with no visible hope for negotiations, and having exhausted resources through massive military aid to Ukraine, any minor issue in Ukraine now risks becoming a fuse for escalating tensions.
Take Poland, for example. Previously, Poland frequently criticized Ukraine for regressing on historical issues, but those criticisms typically fizzled out—until now, when they have escalated to demanding Zelenskyy return his medal.
