Foreign media report: Musk has pledged to launch Starlink satellite internet services in India at affordable prices, directly challenging Reliance Jio—founded on a low-cost strategy by India’s richest individual, Mukesh Ambani—at a time when Jio Platforms, the parent company of Jio, is preparing the largest initial public offering in Indian history, with a valuation target of $106 billion.

In a post on X, Musk stated, “If Starlink is priced too high, no one will buy it,” and sarcastically referred to Ambani as “Prime Minister Ambani,” accusing him of colluding with the Modi government to delay Starlink’s market entry in order to protect domestic incumbents. The Indian government denies favoritism, asserting that three satellite operators—including Starlink and Jio—are all awaiting final security clearance.

India’s mobile data costs are approximately $0.08 per GB, among the lowest globally. Musk has previously deployed similar low-cost strategies in markets such as Kenya, successfully disrupting local telecommunications landscapes.
