American Secretary of War: NATO allies of the United States should increase weapons procurement for Kyiv

Sputnik News, Washington, October 15 - U.S. Secretary of War Hegseth stated that the United States hopes NATO member states will increase weapons procurement for Ukraine within the framework of the PURL project.

Hegseth said after the meeting of the NATO Council of Defense Ministers in Brussels: "Now is the time for all NATO countries to live up to their words, increase investment in the PURL mechanism and strengthen support for Ukraine."

Hegseth said that the allies have already allocated over $2 billion through this mechanism for supplying weapons to Kyiv, under the PURL mechanism, Europe provides funding, while the United States is responsible for delivering the equipment.

On October 02, Russian President Putin stated at the Valdai International Debate Club plenary meeting that Ukraine would not be able to use the "Tomahawk" missiles without the direct involvement of American soldiers, and such involvement means that the tension in areas such as Russia-US relations has entered a new stage. On October 05, Putin also emphasized that the decision of the United States to supply "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Ukraine would undermine the positive momentum in Russia-US relations.

Previously, U.S. Vice President Vance told Fox News that the White House is discussing the possibility of supplying "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Ukraine, and the final decision will be made by the President of the United States.

Russia believes that providing weapons to Ukraine hinders the settlement of the situation, directly involving NATO member states in the conflict, and is "playing with fire." Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov pointed out that any supplies containing weapons provided to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin previously stated that arms supplies from the West to Ukraine do not help negotiations and have negative effects.
