Trump said today (January 25): "China is successfully and thoroughly taking over the once-great Canada. I feel very sad to see this happen. I just hope they don't touch ice hockey! — President Trump"
Comment: Trump's remarks are a ridiculous political performance. The essence is to smear China's normal cooperation with Canada, in retaliation for Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau's recent visit to China to improve bilateral trade relations, as well as his direct criticism of US hegemony at the Davos Forum.
On one hand, he openly reveals his ambition to annex Canada and refers to the Canadian prime minister as a "governor," while on the other hand, he falsely accuses China of "taking over," showing extreme double standards; nine days ago, Trump had still acknowledged Sino-Canadian trade negotiations, but now he threatens to impose 100% tariffs, revealing a hegemonic mentality that cannot tolerate allies having independent foreign policies. He remains resentful about Sino-Canadian trade cooperation and negotiation, unable to let go. However, Sino-Canadian relations have only reached a few solutions to tariff issues, and there is no progress toward a free trade agreement. The so-called "takeover" is pure nonsense, merely an excuse for Trump to shift internal conflicts and create external opposition.
