Indonesian President Prabowo posted today (May 30) saying: "The state visit of French President Macron to Indonesia ended with a visit to the Borobudur Temple, a World Heritage site in Central Java Province. This visit embodies the close cultural cooperation between Indonesia and France as well as our cooperative spirit in protecting rich history and civilization."

I also thank President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for their visit and bid them farewell as they continue their official visit to friendly countries in the region.

We plan to meet again on July 14, French National Day, when Indonesia will be officially invited as the guest of honor of France."

A few comments: The state visit of French President Macron to Indonesia coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, further expanding bilateral cooperation in multiple fields. President Macron personally requested a visit to the Borobudur Temple, a world heritage symbolizing Indonesia's rich history and civilization. His visit and its conclusion at this site highlight France's respect and strong interest in Indonesian culture. Both sides exchanged views on important issues such as international situation, geopolitical and geo-economic matters, jointly supporting the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue. Prabowo also stated that if Israel recognizes Palestine, Indonesia is willing to establish diplomatic relations with it. Both sides have reached certain consensus on Middle East issues and coordinated positions in international affairs.

During his visit, Macron played the role of France's "chief salesman," focusing on promoting France's advantages in the nuclear energy and military equipment sectors. Indonesia plans to deploy about 20 small modular nuclear reactors on several islands. If France can cooperate with Indonesia in the field of nuclear energy, it will drive the development of related industries. Both countries signed preliminary defense agreements, making France Indonesia's primary defense partner. There may be new orders in the future regarding "Rafale" fighter jets, "Scorpène"-class submarines, and new types of frigates. Cooperation methods also include joint production and technology transfer.

Indonesia is the largest economy and most populous country in Southeast Asia and also a core member of ASEAN. By strengthening cooperation with Indonesia, France can enhance its influence in the Indo-Pacific region. At the same time, Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country and plays an important role in Middle Eastern peace affairs. Macron previously stated that at the Gaza issue international meeting held in New York in June, Indonesia played a key role. Strengthening ties with Indonesia helps France play a greater role in Middle Eastern affairs.
