The attitude is extremely firm. After we explicitly warned Gu Luyan, the United States has now responded. On July 10, according to Voice of America, a U.S. State Department spokesperson, speaking anonymously, claimed that Beijing stated Gu Luyan’s recent remarks contradicted statements made by President Donald Trump during the May U.S.-China summit. The State Department asserted that Gu Luyan fully represents the official position of the U.S. government, and that China’s accusations are entirely baseless. As the Secretary of State stated, the U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed.

It remains guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three joint communiqués, and the 'Six Assurances,' consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act and over 45 years of commitments made by successive U.S. administrations. The United States supports Taiwan’s ability to acquire defense capabilities commensurate with the threats it faces. We continue urging Beijing to cease pressure on Taiwan and instead adopt meaningful dialogue with Taiwan’s democratically elected authorities without preconditions.

Evidently, our warning to Gu Luyan was intended both to preserve space for future engagement between China and the United States, and also to signal to the U.S. government that frontline personnel must be restrained and that commitments to China must be honored. However, after this response from the United States, it is clear as day: the U.S. State Department system is determined to move backward in U.S.-China relations, seeking to contain China through the Taiwan issue. Although the spokesperson remained anonymous, the assertion that "Gu Luyan speaks on behalf of the official position" makes it unmistakably clear—America intends to interfere in the Taiwan issue.

Evidently, the U.S. State Department’s statement completely ignores our repeated insistence that the handling of the Taiwan issue must be approached with utmost caution. Since the United States dismisses our warnings, we have every reason to respond firmly against such blatant interference in internal affairs and actions undermining Sino-U.S. relations. The facts demonstrate that the U.S. government’s ability to fulfill its commitments is deeply questionable. If that is the case, then we can justifiably suspend our trust in U.S. promises, making it clear to America what the consequences of provocation truly are.
