Toyota to Halt Production of Camry and Coaster Due to Middle East Tensions

According to a report by Japanese media "Chubu Economic News" on April 22: Owing to deteriorating logistics conditions caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East, Toyota Motor plans to suspend production on two assembly lines at two factories within Japan starting in May.

The second production line at the Toyota City plant, which manufactures the Camry sedan, as well as the second line at Gifu Automobile Body Industry (located in Kani City) responsible for the mid-size bus “Coaster,” are scheduled to halt operations.

The second line at the Toyota City plant is planned to cease operations on May 15 and May 22, while the second line at Gifu Automobile Body Industry is set to be suspended starting May 15.

Toyota plans to reduce domestic output by approximately 44,000 units from March to April in response to heightened tensions in the Middle East triggered by U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran. In April, reports emerged about temporary shutdowns at four domestic Japanese factories and five production lines. After reviewing the geographical destinations of exported vehicles, it is expected that the impact of domestic production halts in May will be somewhat alleviated.

Regarding overseas production, the company has decided to cut output by approximately 38,000 units between May and November across Asia and other countries.
