Phoenix Technology News, Beijing Time July 24, according to Bloomberg, President Trump said on Wednesday that he had considered splitting NVIDIA to increase competition in the AI chip industry, but later found out "it's not easy to do so in this industry."
Trump held an AI summit event in Washington on Wednesday and announced his "AI Action Plan," which is combined with a series of executive orders aimed at promoting the industry by reducing regulatory burdens.
"I said, listen, we need to split this company, but that was before I understood the actual situation," Trump said. He said his aides told him that it was "very difficult," and that the company has a huge advantage over all its competitors, which would take years to catch up.
Trump added, "I thought we could intervene and split them a little bit to create some competition, but then I found out it's not that easy in that industry." The U.S. Department of Justice had conducted an investigation in 2024 to look for evidence of potential anticompetitive behavior by NVIDIA.
However, Trump later praised NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, who was present at the event. Huang met with Trump at the White House earlier this month. Last week, NVIDIA announced that it would resume sales of H20 chips to China.
"You did a great job," Trump praised. Throughout his speech, Trump repeatedly praised Huang and other technology industry leaders for their investments in the United States.
Earlier that day, when Huang was speaking on stage, he also praised Trump's AI policies. "The United States has a unique advantage that no other country can match, and that is President Trump," Huang said.
As of the time of writing, NVIDIA did not respond to comments. (Author / Xiao Yu)
