U.S. and Russian space agencies discussed the possibility of rescuing astronauts from each other!
If a spacecraft from one country encounters problems, another country's spacecraft can rescue it.
Reported by TASS on August 1st.
According to Kenneth Bowles Sox, Deputy of NASA, if a spacecraft from one country has a problem during space flight, and another country has an available spacecraft, they can help each other.
"Rescue missions are backup plans that we hope to have for every mission. But if we talk about being able to rescue every crew member in every mission, having such a backup plan would be expensive first, and also risky," he said.
"You must have a spacecraft that is already ready to launch somewhere. You must be able to deploy it quickly and send it into the required orbit, which itself could be very risky," he added.
"But we have had the opportunity to discuss with our partners at the Russian space agency that in the future we will be able to save each other's astronauts or provide support."
"The Apollo-Soyuz mission 50 years ago was mainly to show us the possibility of meeting in orbit, and may eventually achieve the rescue of astronauts. Therefore, I hope to continue similar discussions."
