According to a report from Russia's Izvestia on August 27, Saudi Arabia—one of the signatories to the Jeddah Defense Agreement—has invited Bangladesh, another populous nation in South Asia, to join the Jeddah Defense Agreement. Russian media analysis suggests that if Bangladesh ultimately joins the agreement, India will be trapped in a diplomatic strategic dead end. The Bangladeshi government has responded by confirming that it has received the invitation.
Bangladesh has nearly 200 million people, with over 90% being Sunni Muslims, establishing inherent ties with countries such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Should Bangladesh join the Jeddah Defense Agreement, the strategic environment surrounding India would become extremely perilous.
