White House press secretary resigns after just five days on the job, with Trump privately criticizing her as "untalented"?

Katie Zaccaria, the newly appointed White House press secretary, has resigned just five days after taking office.

On the 16th, The Washington Post cited U.S. officials stating that Zaccaria had departed her role.

Shortly thereafter, Trump addressed the matter in remarks to the media. While he did not disclose the reasons for her resignation, sources familiar with the situation said Trump directly told Zaccaria she “really needed to reconsider” the position, and during a meeting complained that she lacked talent and “shouldn’t be on television.”

According to Politico, Zaccaria’s departure appears to have been influenced by pressure from White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who reportedly believed Zaccaria was unsuited for the role.

U.S. media report that with midterm elections approaching, the Trump team’s current priority is maintaining stability and minimizing public criticism. Zaccaria’s early performance and the controversies surrounding her appointment suggest she was not a stabilizing presence. As such, the administration chose to sever ties with her before the situation escalated further.
