Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said he has proposed to Washington to eliminate obstacles in bilateral relations
Russia proposed that the U.S. take the initiative to eliminate differences to comprehensively strengthen relations between Moscow and Washington.
Foreign Minister Lavrov pointed out that merely resolving the issue of diplomatic missions is not sufficient for a breakthrough in building cooperation. He said that Russia has proposed moving on to discuss "truly important issues," including the resumption of direct flights between the two countries and the return of confiscated Russian diplomatic property.
Lavrov said when answering a question about the results of Russia's foreign activities in 2025: "We have submitted recommendations to the U.S. side to eliminate these serious obstacles, so that relations between Moscow and Washington can develop comprehensively and healthily."
The foreign minister emphasized that the department expects the U.S. Department of State to show interest in this issue, rather than following the "dead-end approach" of the Joe Biden administration. Lavrov said that if this were the case, the U.S. would gain promising and mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities in its priority areas.
The minister explained: "These areas include hydrocarbons, critical minerals and rare earth elements, Arctic cooperation, artificial intelligence, space, and many other aspects."
Previously, Lavrov had said that European countries have long and continuously tried to undermine Russia-U.S. relations. He pointed out that the EU believes the Trump administration's policies showed a "bias towards Russia at the expense of European interests."
