Media: Design team of China's J-36 is developing a landing system for sixth-generation aircraft

According to a research paper cited by the South China Morning Post, the design team of China's J-36 stealth fighter is developing a computer system to assist pilots in completing the difficult and dangerous operation of landing the sixth-generation aircraft on a moving aircraft carrier.

The report stated that this three-engine, tailless flying wing giant was spotted over Chengdu last December, causing a sensation in the global defense community. In addition to unprecedented stealth capabilities, the fighter (informally named J-36 according to China's naming conventions for other military aircraft) also features a hybrid fuselage design and has enough power to carry missiles for long-range strikes.

The report pointed out that a paper published last month in the Journal of Aeronautics showed that the J-36 design team is in the early stages of developing a naval variant suitable for China's growing fleet of aircraft carriers in the People's Liberation Army Navy. Tao Chenggang, deputy chief designer of the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute of AVIC, said that the risk for pilots attempting to land the sixth-generation aircraft on an aircraft carrier is "extremely high".
