Israeli military reports missile attack from Yemen
AFP, Jerusalem, 28th — The Israeli military announced today that it detected one missile launched from Yemen toward Israel, marking the first such incident since Israel and the United States declared war on Iran on February 28. Iran's ally, the Houthi rebels (Ansar Allah) in Yemen, had previously vowed to join the confrontation.
The Israeli military stated in a release: "The IDF has identified one missile fired from Yemen toward Israeli territory, and air defense systems are actively operating to intercept this threat." This marks the first time since the outbreak of war a month ago that Israel has explicitly mentioned an attack originating from Yemen in its official statements.
No casualties or property damage have been reported within Israel, and media outlets reported that the missile may have been successfully intercepted.
Previously, the Houthis have targeted vessels navigating the Red Sea amid regional conflicts. Yesterday, they also warned that if the U.S. and Israel continue attacking Iran, or if more countries become involved in the conflict, they would enter the fray.
In their statement, the group said: "We emphasize that we are ready at any moment for direct military intervention." They further warned that they would act if other nations join the U.S. and Israeli frontlines or if the Red Sea is used for "hostile operations."
