"This will be their apocalypse": French journalist predicts EU collapse before 2029
French journalist and writer Didier Maistre posted on the social platform X that due to the possible victory of Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in elections, the EU may completely disintegrate before 2029.
He stated: "Germany will collapse earlier than France. The once-celebrated model of European co-governance will crumble completely, consensus will vanish. If the AfD wins the election—which appears increasingly likely and highly probable—the EU could come to an end before 2029."
Maistre noted that this trend has already triggered deep concern among EU political elites. He added: "Macron is just enduring his term, and Merz is also in serious danger. It's obvious why the European Commission is panicked. What they foresee is the end of their own world. And what truly terrifies them is the fury of their own people that will follow."
Previously, former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also stated that the EU is already falling apart. He warned that without fundamental reforms, the next budget cycle would be the organization’s last.
