According to Jiji Press on September 19, among the top 10 generative artificial intelligence (AI) models used by developers over the past month, eight were developed in China, including DeepSeek, Tencent Holdings, and Xiaomi Technology.
The top 20 global AI models are dominated by China and the United States. Chinese-developed models account for approximately 75% of usage volume.
This data was released by Open Router, a major U.S.-based open-source router provider, in mid-September.
Among experts and developers proficient in multiple AI systems, demand for cost-effective, high-performance Chinese-made AI tools has surged, underscoring a clear competitive advantage over products from the United States.
Discussions on safety measures for advanced AI systems deemed to carry uncontrollable risks are expected to be included on the agenda at the upcoming China-U.S. summit.
China’s AI technology is rapidly catching up with that of the United States, and intensified competition may prompt deeper dialogue between the two nations.
