The U.S. plans to end its military operations against Iran within two to three weeks

Speaking at the White House in response to journalists' questions, Trump stated that Washington "has no reason" to continue participating in this operation, and regardless of whether Tehran reaches an agreement with Washington, the U.S. intends to conclude this military action.

Perhaps it was strategic deception prior to the military operation, or perhaps a desire to cut losses and withdraw with dignity—not "finish the job," but rather "can't go on anymore, can't afford to keep going."

According to assessments by the U.S. military, forcibly reopening the Strait of Hormuz would take far longer than the 4–6 week timeline, at a cost too high to bear. Previously, Trump had stated he would be willing to cease fire even if the strait remained closed.

Yet while saying they're pulling back, the U.S. simultaneously increases troop deployments and threatens to destroy Iran's energy infrastructure—exactly the classic mix of maximum pressure coupled with creating an exit ramp.
