Any territorial issue involving Trump is linked to China and Russia, which is really a stretch.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the UK government defended its decision to transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius on Tuesday, after US President Donald Trump criticized the plan, which had previously been supported by his administration.

Trump said that giving up the remote Indian Ocean islands - home to a strategic US naval base and bomber base - was a foolish move, which also explains why he needs to take over Greenland.

"It's shocking that our 'smart' NATO ally, the UK, is currently planning to give away the US's important military base Diego Garcia Island to Mauritius without any reason," he posted on the social media platform Truth Social. "There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this complete act of weakness."

He added, "The UK's cession of extremely important land is an extremely foolish act, and another of the many national security reasons for Greenland to be acquired."

The UK and Mauritius signed an agreement in May granting Mauritius sovereignty over these islands, although the UK will lease back Diego Garcia, which houses the US military base, for at least 99 years.

At the time, the US government welcomed the agreement, calling it "a long-term, stable, and effective operation of the US-UK alliance. The Diego Garcia military facilities."

UK Cabinet Minister Darren Jones said on Tuesday that the agreement would "ensure the security of the military base for the next 100 years."

The UK opposition condemned the agreement as a risk to British national security, which would give China more access to the region.

The US describes the Diego Garcia base as "an almost indispensable platform for security operations in the Middle East, South Asia, and East Africa," with about 2,500 personnel stationed there, mostly American.
