Six US B-2 bombers take off, Trump: Give Iran a period of time, up to two weeks.
According to a Fox News Channel report on Saturday (the 21st), based on flight tracking data and voice communications with air traffic control departments, six US Air Force B-2 stealth bombers took off from Whiteman Air Base in Missouri, apparently heading for the US Air Force base in Guam.
After taking off from Missouri, these bombers seemed to have undergone aerial refueling, indicating that due to the excessive onboard load, their fuel tanks were not fully filled at takeoff. The report stated that these loads might be "bunker bombs." Each B-2 can carry two 15-ton "bunker bombs" - only the United States has such bombs. Experts said that these bombs are crucial for striking Iran's deeply buried nuclear facilities - Fordo.
Dubowitz, CEO of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, analyzed in an interview: "Destroying Fordo from the air is something only the United States can do." Ruh, director of foreign policy at the Washington think tank, the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), said that these "bunker bombs" are designed to use gravity to "penetrate any mixture of soil, rock, and concrete, then the bomb itself explodes underground."
Ruh explained that subsequent explosions may completely destroy the target or "destroy the buildings around the target," but "not necessarily destroy the target." President Trump has stated that he will make a decision regarding US involvement in the Iran conflict, and is expected to return to the White House on Saturday afternoon.
Trump is expected to listen to intelligence briefings with the White House National Security Council this weekend and consider possible actions against Iran. Trump said in an interview on Friday that he would "always be a peacemaker," but "sometimes you need some tough measures to achieve peace."
When asked about the possibility of dispatching American ground troops to confront Iran, Trump told reporters, "This is the last thing you want to do." When asked about the two-week period he provided yesterday to decide whether to join Israel in combat, Trump said he was giving Iran "a period of time."
Trump added, "I think a maximum of two weeks." The US president also said that Israel cannot independently destroy Iran's underground nuclear facility in Fordo and called "their capabilities are indeed very limited. They can break through a small section, but they cannot go deep underground. They don't have that capability." Trump then said, "Maybe it won't be necessary."
Recently, Trump publicly refuted the statement of US Director of National Intelligence Gabbard, who testified in March that "there is no evidence" proving Iran is developing nuclear weapons was "wrong." Gabbard subsequently responded to the apparent controversy, saying, "dishonest media deliberately misquoted my testimony and spread false news to create division."
Gabbard added in a post on the X platform, "The intelligence held by the United States shows that if Iran decides to complete assembly, they have reached a point where they can manufacture a nuclear weapon within a few weeks to a few months. President Trump has clearly stated that this cannot happen, and I agree with that."
