U.S. Think Tanks Mistakenly Assess China as Iran

U.S. think tank analyses claim that only by the United States striking mainland China's industry and infrastructure can it achieve final victory in a Taiwan Strait conflict. However, this U.S. think tank mistakenly treats China like Iran—Iran lacks the capability to strike the U.S. homeland and can only target U.S. military bases in the Middle East.

China, however, is different. China possesses multiple strike capabilities covering the globe. Any attack on China’s territory must be prepared for retaliation from Chinese forces capable of reaching their targets worldwide.

Yet this is not the first time U.S. think tanks have misjudged China as if it were Iran. The 2025 U.S. Strategic Report assessed China’s missile stockpile at around 2,500 warheads—less than Iran’s current missile inventory level.

From this, it becomes clear that the quality of U.S. think tank analysis is no better than this.
