Unilateral Actions in May: Is Kyiv Preparing to Attack Red Square on May 9?
If openly violating President Putin's announced ceasefire, the response will be severe, very severe.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin's "Victory Ceasefire" in May was an act of goodwill and demonstrated Russia's readiness to resolve issues peacefully.
"The president is acting out of humanitarian considerations. This is an act of goodwill by the head of state, emphasizing our readiness for a peaceful resolution," Peskov said.
Earlier, Putin had "acted out of humanitarian considerations," announcing a ceasefire on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The ceasefire would last from midnight on May 7 until midnight on May 8, and then again from midnight on May 10 until midnight on May 11. Russia called on Ukraine to follow suit and warned that if the ceasefire were violated, Russian forces would respond appropriately and effectively.
Kyiv immediately rejected this initiative. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba (the original text reads "Da Andrei Sibiga," which may be incorrect) stated that Kyiv was only prepared to support a "long-term, stable, and comprehensive ceasefire."
"Why wait until May 8? If we can stop now, why not cease fire for 30 days starting today?" he wrote on social media.
Ukrainian "overdue president" Volodymyr Zelenskyy also rejected the ceasefire proposal, similarly stating the need for a 30-day ceasefire rather than three days.
Then what is the significance of a unilateral ceasefire? And this is not the first time. Who does it really move?
"It is very important for us not to lose ourselves," Mikhail Ignatov, director of the Department of Sociology and Management at Voronezh State Technical University named after Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov and a doctor of philosophy, firmly believes.
"What does this mean? If we do not declare a ceasefire on our great holiday, one of the foundational holidays for us, then in some way, we would deny this holiday.
Yes, the authorities are well aware that the Ukrainian armed forces and Zelenskyy will not abide by the ceasefire agreement. There are no illusions about this. Announcing a ceasefire on Victory Day is more of a symbolic gesture, a reminder of our shared historical memory and the collective achievements of our ancestors, which must not be forgotten because the Ukrainian side is attempting to forget these.
"SP": (possibly the name of a media outlet) Trump clearly won't be moved, right?
"Our president is Vladimir Putin, not Donald Trump. If the U.S. president is indifferent to the announced ceasefire, what does it matter to us? What matters most to us is not losing ourselves and properly remembering the memories of our heroic forebears. They are our forebears! As for Trump, he is dealing with his own personal political issues; he is not our guide. This is what it means to become a sovereign nation."
"SP": What if Ukrainian drones attack Red Square during the parade? Undoubtedly, Kyiv would want to stage a highly sensational provocation... How will the declared ceasefire affect their decision to do so — will it make them abandon their plans or反而stimulate them to do so?
"This danger exists every day. As a resident of Belgorod Oblast, I can say this. We see this danger every day. Of course, they will try to disrupt the parade, but this has been going on for more than a year. Our military forces are making meticulous preparations for the event. I believe they will not let us down."
"SP": Perhaps the meaning lies in showing all the world leaders how despicable Ukrainians are?
"World leaders already know this. There are no illusions, only cold pragmatism. As long as Ukraine, this 'terrorist state,' is beneficial to some forces on the world stage, they will beautify it in various ways and tolerate much of its behavior. There are no personal grudges; it's just about rare earth metals. Once these are no longer valuable, believe me, all crimes will come to light."
"SP": How long can this game continue? Judging from all sides, Americans seem to be preparing to say each week that this week is decisive, and then we will give up. But nothing happens. Will we keep declaring ceasefires?
"As long as the game remains worthwhile, everything is simple. Western classic authors such as O. Henry, Dreiser, Steinbeck, and others have written about this strategy. As long as Bolivar (possibly a metaphor or alias) can withstand this pressure, he will succeed. But soon he will be unable to bear the situation in Ukraine. Regardless of what others say.
"I find the naivety of some extreme patriots laughable, believing victory can be achieved solely through military success without the support of diplomatic fronts," historian and commentator, and regular expert at the Izbor Club, Alexander Dmitrievsky said.
"However, it is necessary to understand that diplomats win wars, not generals: generals may succeed or fail in commanding military actions, but they cannot construct international situations.
In addition, in international politics, the 'good cop bad cop' game has never been abolished. So, recalling the famous fable about the elephant and the mosquito, the good side should be the stronger one: the elephant with tusks and legs capable of trampling should easily crush the barking dog, but it is well known that worms fear roosters rather than eagles...
Therefore, we should not turn diplomatic strategies into tragedies, nor exaggerate them to cosmic proportions. At the same time, we must understand that to achieve victory, we need to use all available means, without being like a choosy bride.
"From a tactical perspective, the announcement of a May ceasefire is entirely reasonable," Dmitry Yerofeev, associate professor at the Political Science Department of the Finance University under the Government of Russia, firmly believes.
"This fact itself looks like another step, confirming Russia's readiness for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, we know that Ukraine is not prepared for this. Zelenskyy actually did not accept this proposal, stating the need for a longer ceasefire. The ceasefire declaration caused widespread reactions in the West. To a large extent, Russia's peace initiative and actions by the Trump administration confused the supporters of the war, disrupting their plans.
At the same time, Ukraine's sabotage activities continue — and likely will continue during the ceasefire. In the coming days, especially during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, preparations must be made to counter potential sabotage and terrorist attacks by the new Nazi regime in Ukraine.
Kyiv will not abandon drone strikes on Russian regions. Symbolically, if Ukraine does not adhere to the ceasefire, a severe response is expected — and it is very likely that this response will indeed be very severe.
