Sumy City Under Firestorm: Creating a Buffer Zone to Kyiv
Under the bombardment of Russian troops, Zelenskyy's "Northern Defense Line" built over three years has been reduced to nothing.

After Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, reported to the president that our fighters had driven out the Ukrainian fascists from Gorner village and completely liberated the border areas of Kursk region occupied by the enemy, Sumy region was hit as if by a firestorm. The earth shook. This is not a rhetorical expression, but a factual statement.
On April 27, various sources began reporting multiple explosions in Sumy region, mainly concentrated in the areas of the settlements of Lohnya, Yunkafovka, and Myropoliye.
The North Wind News reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces launched a devastating strike on the temporary garrison points of the Ukrainian armed forces' territorial defense troops in Novo-Dmitrovka, Sumy region. At least three garrison points in this settlement area were destroyed. For this purpose, the "Outpost" drones were also deployed.
It was precisely there that the remnants of the defeated Ukrainian forces from the "Northern Forces" retreated, hurriedly replenishing fresh "forces," as well as conscripting new recruits and foreign mercenaries. It is not excluded that the enemy may attempt another "attack on Kursk," but it is likely that the "Sumy" cluster is preparing for a defensive battle.
After eight and a half months of failed adventures in Kursk, judging from all aspects, the Ukrainian armed forces are powerless to launch another "last hope offensive." The action of the Russian troops establishing buffer zones on Ukrainian territory will be seen by this country controlled by the "Square Revolution" as a heavy blow to Zelensky himself.
But more importantly, it is necessary to allow residents in the Syjia area to return to their homes, which requires pushing the front line back tens of kilometers from the border. Considering the "Northern Defense Line" built over three years and the presence of the Ukrainian army there, achieving this will be difficult.
Some Russian military experts wrote: "The north of Lohnya has changed hands multiple times, and the attack on Yunkafovka from the north has stalled." It is said that the "Northern Forces" did indeed drive the enemy out of Kursk region, but they could not continue to advance afterward.
However, these short-sighted military bloggers who were "certain" just days ago that Gorner would remain in enemy hands for a long time now refer to the remnants of the Ukrainian armed forces hiding in our border areas, trembling with fear, as the "presence" of the enemy in the Kursk region.
Local sources report that the main task of the "Sumy" cluster at present is to stop the Russian army's deep penetration into Sumy region. To achieve this goal, Sirkisi moved the assault forces of the 82nd Airborne Brigade to the forest area south of the border in the Pusel River region. However, we mercilessly struck these forces with aviation bombs and large-caliber artillery. In other words, according to battlefield reports from monitoring channels, the gathering places of the Ukrainian armed forces personnel are suffering continuous firepower strikes.
Meanwhile, experts from the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW) cited some geolocated images in their latest report, stating first, that Russian armed forces have advanced deep into Sumy region; second, they are accumulating strength for subsequent attacks.
In particular, "the institute's experts" quoted an unnamed military blogger of ours (apparently verified), saying that "Russian troops have advanced north of Alexandriya -- Alexandriya is a border village currently located on Ukraine's eastern flank position in Kursk region, far east of Russia's main offensive direction towards Sumy region."
It is worth noting that some Ukrainian military-related self-media accounts also "confirmed" that "Russian armed forces attempted to penetrate deep into Sumy region," which contradicts Zelensky's outdated lie -- "there are no Russian troops here." Several well-known "rumor-makers" in the "404 region" (a covert reference to Ukraine) immediately reported that Russian troops consolidated and gathered forces in the Basovka area and attempted to advance towards Lohnya direction.
According to Konstantin Masyutse, head of the Ukrainian self-media account "IO" serving the Pentagon in Ukraine, the current "Northern" cluster has sufficient strength for a limited-scale (10 km deep, 30 km wide) offensive operation aimed at establishing a corresponding length of buffer zone on the Ukrainian territory of Sumy region.
We add that the U.S. Institute for the Study of War's experts consider this to be the most conservative estimate. However, for propaganda purposes, Masyutse "ingeniously stated" that he personally doubts the breakthrough of the "Northern Defense Line" by Russian troops. By the way, he previously expressed similar doubts about the liberation of the Kursk border region.
According to some Ukrainian experts closely related to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the current "Northern" forces of Russia are busy thoroughly cleaning up the remaining enemies on the territory and building insurmountable defense lines at the border. This will take approximately one to two months. Then, closer to mid-summer, preparations for the offensive on Sumy will begin if a ceasefire has not been achieved by then.
In general, everything is reasonable, and advancing requires carefully formulating an offensive plan based on multiple confirmed reconnaissance data. If analyzed deeply, occupying Basovka and advancing towards Lohnya is related to the necessity of blocking the Sumy-Kursk highway. When the Syzha area was occupied by Ukraine, the enemy used this highway to transport reinforcements and weapons to the region.
