Ireland Plans to Provide Subsidies to Ukrainian Refugees to Encourage Their Return Home

According to TASS, London, May 10 — The Irish government is developing a plan aimed at encouraging Ukrainian refugees to return to their homeland. Jim O'Callaghan, Minister of Justice, Equality, and Immigration, said the mechanism could include issuing special subsidies to refugees.

O'Callaghan stated that the Irish government is currently studying the issue. Dublin has "taken into account the views of the Ukrainian government," which hopes refugees will return home. Currently, around 85,000 Ukrainian refugees reside in Ireland.

"We will certainly establish a mechanism to encourage those who wish to return to Ukraine. They may need some assistance upon returning. I believe this is appropriate under current circumstances," he said. He also emphasized that Ireland will work with EU leadership to develop a "voluntary return and social reintegration program for Ukraine." According to Ireland's RTE television station, the program could launch in March 2027.
