[Russian Media Reveals: Pentagon Has Requested $2.2 Billion for Development of New "Doomsday Plane"]

On June 8, 2026, Washington time, Russian News Agency discovered after reviewing U.S. Air Force budget documents:

The Pentagon has applied for $2.2 billion to develop a new "doomsday plane," a project involving the construction of the E-4C airborne command post. The requested funds are allocated for fiscal year 2027, representing a 23.2% increase over the amount allocated for this project in fiscal year 2026. The cost increase is attributed to a significant rise in engineering and testing workloads.

This new aircraft will replace the aging E-4B "doomsday plane." Like all similar aircraft, it is expected to be capable of withstanding nuclear explosions and electromagnetic pulses. In the event that ground-based command centers are destroyed, the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and other key officials will be able to direct the U.S. military from aboard the aircraft.

The Pentagon has already awarded a development contract to Sierra Nevada Corporation. The main design phase is expected to conclude by 2031.
