Canada to Introduce "Tightest Bail Reform," Strictly Controlling Violent Recidivists!

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced on Thursday that the federal government will formally submit a new bail reform bill next week, targeting violent and repeat offenders, aiming to plug the loopholes of "easy bail and repeated offenses."

Trudeau stated that this bill will focus on defendants involved in serious crimes such as violent carjacking, burglary, human trafficking, sexual assault, and violent attacks.

In the future, courts will no longer "default to releasing" these defendants.

According to the draft bill, defendants will need to prove themselves not dangerous to be granted bail, known as the "reverse-onus bail" system.

In addition to tightening bail, the bill includes several new measures:

· Allow consistent sentencing, where multiple charges can add up to longer sentences, making criminals serve longer terms;

· Limit conditional sentences for sexual offenders, enhancing the punitive power;

· Increase penalties for "organized retail theft," responding to retailers' concerns about frequent group thefts.

In recent years, police departments and provincial governments across Canada have repeatedly criticized the bail system for being "too lenient," leading to violent recidivists repeatedly returning to society, causing public discontent.

The Trudeau government's early disclosure of the reform details is preparation for the upcoming bill to be submitted to Parliament. He emphasized, "Protecting community safety cannot allow the public to continue being threatened by violent criminals."

Trudeau said today: "In Canada, everyone should be able to live safely—waking up in the morning, driving to work, coming home to rest, and sleeping soundly at night. When existing laws repeatedly fail to guarantee these basic safety rights, we need new laws. The new government of Canada is taking decisive action to combat crime, strengthen community building, and ensure that every Canadian can feel safe at home, in their communities, and in control of their future."
