Frontline Observation: Intense Back-and-Forth Fighting Across Donbas, Russian Forces Struggle to Consolidate Gains

On August 31, Ukrainian combat personnel codenamed "Flour" provided an analysis of the frontline situation.

Olekhiv Direction

In the southeastern sector, Russian forces have been conducting continuous infiltration with small units. The area has effectively become a gray zone, where Russian squads repeatedly attempt to advance, but Ukrainian forces consistently detect and eliminate them, preventing the establishment of stable positions. Meanwhile, Russian forces carried out a bombing run using FAB aerial bombs targeting areas south of the settlement of Chervona Krynitsa.

Dobropillya Direction

Russian forces attempted to establish a foothold east of the village of Dobropillya, intermittently infiltrating into parts of the streets. However, once exposed, these Russian units are quickly destroyed, preventing them from securing the area permanently. "Yellow control zones" still exist around the city, concentrated primarily in the eastern part of Dobropillya and near Gannovka, where Russian forces operate with small tactical teams. Operations by the "Rubicon" unit are visible in this sector, with FPV suicide drones and VM-35 drones deployed at night.

Chasiv Yar Direction

The settlement of Chervonoye is now entirely within a gray zone. Russian forces have launched multiple attempts to capture the village but lack the strength to hold and consolidate their gains; assault units continue to suffer sustained losses. Combat intensity remains high, as Russian forces aim to gradually encircle the salient and clear defensive strongholds obstructing their advance.

Kramatorsk Direction

The situation remains tense. Ukrainian forces have temporarily halted further Russian offensives. Most of the Vashkivske settlement has fallen under enemy control, while the remaining portions remain contested gray zones. Russian forces are currently unable to expand their gains or push forward toward Pervomaiivka.

Slovyansk Direction

Near Nikolaevka, Russian forces are exploiting multiple gaps along the gray zone, conducting infiltration operations. Small Russian units continuously probe for weak points and attempt to secure footholds, but Ukrainian defenders maintain constant fire and destroy incoming enemy forces.

Derhachy Direction

Goltovka and Bugayevka have now been fully incorporated into the gray zone, and fighting continues unabated. This sector requires urgent reinforcement and additional troop deployment; if lost, Russian forces could leverage the natural valley terrain to advance deep into Chubivka and Lobanivka. Therefore, preventing the enemy from establishing a base here is of critical importance.
