Foreign media: Several British political figures have called on the government to force Dutch chip company Nexperia to sell its chip factory in Stockport, England, for national security reasons. The plant has an annual revenue of about 192 million pounds and is one of the largest chip manufacturing bases in the UK.
Nexperia was acquired by Chinese company Joye Semiconductor in 2019, and its headquarters are located in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. This month, the Dutch government took over Nexperia's headquarters on grounds of economic security and replaced its Chinese CEO Zhang Xuezhen.
The UK government responded that it is closely monitoring the situation and has invested 75 million pounds to strengthen the domestic semiconductor industry.
