Latest QS World University Rankings: U of T Losing the "Top Spot"

The international higher education evaluation organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the latest global university rankings, which evaluate over 1,500 universities from more than 100 countries worldwide across multiple dimensions such as academic research, employability, learning experience, global engagement, and sustainability.

Canada's universities have seen changes in their rankings.

McGill University has leapfrogged to become Canada's new top-ranked institution, reclaiming the title of Canada's No. 1 university with a global ranking of 27!

Long-time leader, the University of Toronto (U of T), follows closely behind at 29th globally. The University of British Columbia (UBC) ranks 40th globally, remaining solidly in third place in Canada.

U of T scored above 97 on 8 out of 10 QS ranking indicators, but two metrics dragged down its overall score. One was citation count, scoring 68.8, and the other was student-to-faculty ratio, scoring only 45.7.

MIT has retained the top spot for the 14th consecutive year, Imperial College remains second, Stanford rises to third, while Oxford, Harvard, and Cambridge all saw declines in this round of rankings.

China's Peking University and Tsinghua University made it into the global top 20. Peking University ranks 14th, and Tsinghua University 17th. Other Chinese universities entering the global top 100 include Fudan University (30th), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (47th), and Zhejiang University (49th).
