Polls show that U.S. President Trump's approval rating for the first 100 days of his second term has hit the lowest in nearly 80 years. During an interview broadcast on Fox News Channel on the 2nd, U.S. Vice President Vance defended Trump, claiming he did not believe the poll numbers and even if they were accurate, he "didn't really care," because he only cared about "results."

In the interview video, when asked by the Fox host about Trump's poor performance in various polls, Vance said that in "modern society in 2025," polling organizations could no longer accurately reflect the true thoughts of "most Americans." "People simply don't answer calls, and if they do, they hang up immediately; I saw this situation during the 2024 election campaign," he said.

Vance then claimed that in last year's U.S. presidential election, "every mainstream media polling organization" predicted that former Vice President and Democratic candidate Harris would win all swing states, but Trump still won the election. "I am skeptical of polls," he said, "and even if the polls are accurate, I don't really care because if we do well, people will see the results."

Vice President Vance discusses Trump's poll ratings in Fox News interview.

The Independent of the UK found on April 4th that Vance's remarks on social platforms have drawn much mockery. A user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, "Not sure if this attitude will help in the 2028 election." Another sarcastically remarked, "'Polls are bad? Don't care.' - An innovative political strategy of simply deciding that reality doesn't matter when things aren't going well in reality."

Critics argued that as a democratically elected official, such an indifferent stance toward public opinion was "bold." Some went so far as to say, "Of course you don't care... but if the outcome were different, you'd be shouting it from the rooftops! A bunch of clowns in the White House."

April 29th marked the 100th day of Trump's second term in office. On April 27th, a new poll jointly conducted by ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos revealed that Trump's approval rating for the first 100 days of his second term stood at 39%, down six percentage points from February and marking the lowest approval rating for a president's first 100 days in office in the past 80 years.

The data also showed that 72% of Americans believed Trump's economic policies were likely to lead to a short-term economic downturn, 53% thought the U.S. economy had worsened since Trump took office, and 41% felt their own financial situation had deteriorated since Trump's presidency began.

In terms of politics, 65% of respondents stated that the Trump administration was attempting to evade compliance with federal court orders, 64% believed Trump's actions in expanding presidential powers were too aggressive, and 62% thought the Trump administration lacked respect for the rule of law.

Trump immediately posted on his self-created social platform Truth Social, accusing these figures of being "fake polls" released by "fake news agencies." He accused polling organizations and news media of suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome," stating that the heads of these organizations should be investigated for election fraud.

However, as Trump himself mentioned in his tweet, the institutions producing poll results unfavorable to him are not only pro-Democratic CNN and The Washington Post, but also pro-Republican Fox News Channel.

The latest poll results published by The New York Times and Siena College showed that overall dissatisfaction with Trump reached 53%, while satisfaction was 44%. Another recent poll released by CNN on April 27th showed that Trump's support rate was 41%, down four percentage points from March and seven percentage points since February.

Fox News Channel also found that apart from receiving slightly higher ratings on border security issues, Trump's approval ratings were low in almost every other policy area. A poll released on April 23rd showed that 59% of voters were dissatisfied with Trump's governance, and most voters had a pessimistic view of the economy, with 71% dissatisfied with the economic situation, 82% worried about high prices, and 55% saying their family situation was getting worse.
