The Secretary of State, head of the aid agency, and now the National Archivist has become the National Security Advisor. US officials said that Marco Rubio's expanding resume highlights President Trump's growing trust in this former Florida senator.

According to a report by Reuters, Trump said on Thursday that Mike Waltz, the current National Security Advisor, will take over as UN ambassador. Just weeks ago, Waltz inadvertently pulled Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, into an encrypted Signal group called "Youth Movement PC Small Group" (Houthi PC small group), where senior officials were discussing how the Pentagon would attack Houthi rebel bases in Yemen and what weapons would be used, resulting in a leak of classified information.

Trump's appointment of Rubio as the acting National Security Advisor is another example of this White House owner turning again to someone he once dismissed as "Little Marco" and called a "liar." Rubio will lead the coordination of the U.S. government's national security operations worldwide, but Trump did not disclose when he will appoint a permanent successor.

This personnel reshuffle occurs while efforts are being made to end the Ukraine-Russia war, restore the failed ceasefire agreement in Gaza, engage in complex nuclear negotiations with Iran, and address the diplomatic fallout from Trump's imposition of sky-high tariffs that sparked the U.S.-China trade war.

A senior U.S. official said that Rubio has built trust by executing the tasks Trump assigned him. "He has done everything Trump asked him to do," said the official, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive issues. "Why should we distrust him?" Brian Hughes, a spokesperson for the National Security Council (NSC), said that Rubio has implemented Trump's "America First" agenda and is "fully qualified" to oversee the committee.

Previously, Rubio was sent to Panama to express Trump's commitment to "regaining" the Panama Canal in a more diplomatic way. After Trump had a heated argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office in March, he dispatched Rubio to Saudi Arabia to help push forward peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, Rubio played a leading role in Trump's controversial immigration policies, reaching an agreement to send so-called gang members to El Salvador's notorious prisons and revoking thousands of student visas. In many cases, these students participated in anti-Israel protests.

Most importantly, despite conflicts with his previous positions, Rubio still loudly defended Trump. Rubio, who once served as a U.S. senator and supported foreign aid globally, supervised the dismantling of major aid agencies in Washington under Trump's leadership and proudly defended the decision. At an event in the White House Rose Garden on Thursday, Trump thanked Rubio for his "incredible" work. "When I have questions, I call Marco," Trump said. "And he solves them."
