Japanese Media: China's Shipbuilding Orders Account for Over 80% of Global Volume

According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency (NNA), as reported on July 24: Based on global shipbuilding index data for the first half of 2026 (January–June), new ship orders in China, measured in deadweight tons (DWT), surged to 121.06 million DWT—2.7 times higher than the same period last year. Its share of the global market reached 82.3%, a decrease of 2.6 percentage points from the first quarter (January–March) figure of 84.9%.

As of the end of June, China's uncompleted shipbuilding orders totaled 363.25 million DWT, an increase of 54.9% year-on-year.

Shipbuilding completions in China from January to June rose by 51.2%, reaching 36.5 million DWT.

China's outstanding orders account for 71.2% of the global total, while completed orders make up 62.2% globally.

From January to June, China's ship export value reached $31.62 billion (approximately 5.16 trillion Japanese yen).
