German media: China develops a super train with a speed of 620 km/h
The "Business Daily" published a commentary stating that China is giving a new definition to "high-speed trains": the new maglev super train developed by CRRC has reached an astonishing test speed of 620 km/h, which can fully challenge air passenger transport:
"Therefore, China not only invests in technology but also in infrastructure. However, building a maglev train network is no easy task: China's conventional railway network has already reached 47,000 kilometers. Maglev technology requires its own network, and it takes great technical efforts to connect it with the existing railway network.
Several universities in China are researching various maglev train schemes, but apart from short-range trial operations, there seems to be no economically feasible solution so far. This is one of the reasons why the Shanghai maglev line is far from the original plan. Moreover, local and inter-regional finances are currently not abundant. After years of construction boom, China has become very cautious in selecting landmark projects.
Therefore, the new super maglev train may first appear between Shanghai and Beijing, the two most important megacities. Later, it may extend to southern metropolises such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
As for whether the super maglev train can actually be put into operation, it is still undetermined. Some critics mock China's maglev projects as always being "just on paper," without any real implementation.
Even if the train one day can fly at near-flight speeds on the maglev track, whether the public will be willing to take it remains a question: after all, flying domestically is often cheaper than taking a train in China. The real test that the new maglev train faces will be how to win the favor of domestic passengers. Given this, the super train still has a long way to go in the future."
