Besant: The United States is deploying military forces near Iran

New York, February 11 -- TASS

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant stated that the United States is deploying additional military forces toward Iran.

Earlier reports by The Wall Street Journal said that the Pentagon had ordered a second aircraft carrier battle group to prepare for deployment to the Middle East. In an interview with Fox News Channel, the treasury secretary said, "President (Donald Trump) and Minister Hedges are deploying additional military forces and equipment toward Iran."

Besant said that the U.S. president believes that after striking Iran's nuclear facilities, the United States can reach a more favorable deal with Tehran, and the decision on this matter lies with Iranian authorities. U.S. Treasury Secretary also claimed that Iran seems to only understand "raw force, whether in financial markets or military fields."

On January 26, Washington stated that a "large fleet" was heading toward Iran. The U.S. said it hopes Tehran will return to the negotiating table to reach a "fair and equal" agreement that means completely abandoning nuclear weapons. The U.S. warned that "the next strike would be worse," referring to the strike against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the summer of 2025, and urged "not to let this happen."

New round of negotiations between Iran and the United States on resolving the crisis of Tehran's nuclear program took place on February 6 in the capital of Oman. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the American delegation was led by President's Special Envoy Steven Witkoff.
