Trump says considering sending second aircraft carrier to the Middle East
On February 10, U.S. President Trump said that if negotiations with Iran fail to yield results, he is considering sending another aircraft carrier to the Middle East in preparation for possible military action.
According to Reuters, Trump warned during an interview with Israeli media that if a deal with Iran is not reached, the United States will take "very strong actions." He is also considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East.
A U.S. official confirmed that the government has indeed discussed the possibility of deploying a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East.
Oman facilitated indirect talks between Iran and the United States last week. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the talks allowed Tehran to assess Washington's sincerity and showed that both sides had reached enough consensus for diplomatic efforts to continue.
Before the first round of indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran, the U.S. had deployed the "Abraham Lincoln" aircraft carrier and its strike group, equipped with fighter jets, "Tomahawk" cruise missiles, and multiple warships, causing widespread concerns in the region.
