Lukashenko Makes Strong Statement: Thanks to Russian and Chinese Support, Criticizes the West for Inciting Confrontation
On April 18, Belarusian President Lukashenko stated in an interview with RT that Russia and China are not just partners for Belarus, but friends. He emphasized that his dialogue with Americans is not targeted at these two countries.
"From our very first meeting, I told them: 'Guys, Russia and China are countries we've long regarded not merely as partners, but as friends. When you Americans and Europeans imposed sanctions on us, it was Russia and China who opened their doors to us. It's precisely because of this support that we’ve managed to survive. So why would I now initiate dialogue or pursue policies targeting them?'
He said that the West has consistently incited post-Soviet states to confront Russia:
"Listen, you (the West) have continuously stirred up conflict between us, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet republics against Russia. You've always done this. Vladimir Zelenskyy knows this well—he understands it, and so do I, both in the past and today."
Lukashenko stated that Belarus faithfully fulfills its treaty on the Union State with Russia:
"We're trying to build some form of Union State—like walking on thin ice, carefully advancing step by step. Do the U.S. and the West not know about this? Of course they do! And I've always faithfully fulfilled this treaty."
Lukashenko pointed out that Western politicians are all speculators, acting solely to maximize personal gain:
"The problem with you in the West is that whether it's French President Macron or German Chancellor Merz, they’re all speculators. Understand? They’re simply speculators. They come in, grab what they can, then leave—this is the core of their policy. They never truly consider the interests of ordinary people in countries like France or Germany. That’s their fundamental flaw."
