Macron's Cairo trip supports the Arab version of the Gaza reconstruction plan.
French President Macron arrived in Cairo on the evening of the 6th for a 48-hour official visit. During the visit, bilateral talks mainly discussed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and expressed France's full support for the "Arab version of the Gaza reconstruction plan." This is Macron's fourth visit to Egypt.
After arriving in Cairo on Sunday night, the French president met with Egyptian President Sisi and had dinner together. He also visited the newly built museum that opened its doors in July this year.
During his two-day visit to Egypt, Macron also held a trilateral summit with Egyptian President and King Abdullah II of Jordan. They further focused on discussing the support for the Gaza plan by Arab countries to counter US President Trump's proposal for forced migration of Gaza residents. The summit will also discuss reopening transit points to deliver aid supplies to the besieged Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry stated that at least 50,810 Palestinians were confirmed dead and 115,688 injured during the war waged by Israel against Gaza. The government press office updated the death toll to more than 61,700 and said that thousands of people reported missing under the rubble are estimated to have died. In the attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, at least 1,139 Israelis were killed, and over 200 were captured.
One of the topics discussed by US President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu during their meeting at the White House was: which countries are "willing" to receive displaced Gaza Palestinians.
The crisis in the Gaza Strip has been shrouded in another shadow after Trump's re-election as US President. Trump proposed relocating Gaza residents out of Gaza so they can seek new lives elsewhere, allowing Gaza to be transformed into the "Côte d'Azur" of the Middle East.
Trump's proposal caused strong backlash in international public opinion. Egypt, which has clearly expressed opposition, and Jordan Kingdom have refused to become the destination for Gaza residents expelled by Trump's plan.
The Arab version of the Gaza reconstruction plan emphasizes: "not making Palestinians leave Gaza"; "not allowing Israel to control Gaza"; "not letting Hamas continue to govern Gaza," has been recognized by the Arab League as the "Arab Plan" (Arab Plan), and is expected to cost $53 billion to rebuild Gaza.
Therefore, Macron's Cairo trip also aims to express support for the Middle Eastern countries deeply concerned about Trump's Gaza plan and the Gaza plan proposed by the Arab world under Egypt's initiative.
In addition to seeking solutions to the war, the talks between the three leaders will also focus on the humanitarian aid crisis in the Gaza Strip and call for removing obstacles to the delivery of relief supplies to Gaza.
