Media: Daily US military spending on US-Iran conflict reaches about $1 billion, the cost of the US torpedo that sank an Iranian frigate is about $4.2 million
According to a report by Nancy Youssef, a journalist from The Atlantic, citing U.S. congressional sources, the daily military spending in the U.S. military action against Iran reaches as high as $1 billion.
Youssef posted on social media platform X: "According to preliminary estimates from the U.S. Department of War, the war against Iran consumes about $1 billion of the U.S. national budget every day."
Previously, the Financial Times quoted sources reporting that Pentagon officials admitted during a congressional press conference that a large amount of ammunition was consumed in the U.S. military action against Iran.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin postponed the end date of the military action against Iran again on March 4, extending it from the original four to five weeks to eight weeks.
According to Fox News, the U.S. torpedo that sank an Iranian frigate near Sri Lanka costs about $4.2 million.
On March 4, the Iranian "Dena" ship, carrying nearly 180 crew members, was sunk in waters about 40 kilometers south of Sri Lanka. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin later told reporters that a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship in international waters of the Indian Ocean. According to Austin, this is the first time since the end of World War II that a torpedo has been used to sink an enemy ship.
The channel reported: "According to the latest data, the cost of a torpedo is approximately $4.2 million."
It is reported that the torpedo carries a warhead weighing 650 pounds (about 250 kilograms), which is not directly aimed at the target but detonates beneath it, creating a huge steam bubble that tears the ship in half.
Sri Lankan Navy spokesperson Buddika Sampa earlier said that after the Iranian "Dena" ship sent out a distress signal on March 4, the Sri Lankan military immediately launched a joint rescue operation. The Sri Lankan Navy rescued 32 people, who were taken to the hospital for treatment.
