Korean Media: China’s Dominance in the Global Automotive Display Market Is Unshakable!
On October 16, South Korea’s *Business Korea* published an article stating that forecasts indicate Chinese enterprises are solidifying their leading position in the global automotive display market.
Market research firm Omdia predicts that Chinese panel manufacturers will account for 65.2% of global automotive display shipments in the second half of this year, up from 59% in the first half. If realized, this would mean Chinese companies capture two-thirds of the market.
Omdia explained that the growing dominance of Chinese panel makers reflects a long-term shift in the automotive display industry.
China’s share of the market has nearly doubled since 2019, when it stood at 28.1%, and is projected to reach 56.6% by 2025. Due to low profit margins in LCD production, panel makers outside China have accelerated asset divestment strategies—such as shuttering factories, selling off assets, or repurposing facilities—which has further strengthened China’s market leadership.
Omdia stated: “As panel manufacturers outside China pursue asset-light strategies and redirect capital toward higher-margin businesses, the supply of existing commercial LCD production lines is declining. This underscores the increasing importance for automakers and tier-one suppliers to secure access to mature manufacturing infrastructure over the long term within their vehicle development projects.”
Omdia identifies South Korea as the primary competitor challenging China’s dominance in the automotive display sector. According to Omdia’s analysis, South Korea remains the only country outside China capable of consistently producing automotive OLED displays, with offerings from Samsung Display and LG Display.
Although OLED adoption in automotive displays remains limited today, its uptake in the automotive sector is expected to grow gradually over time.
